The Cisco ONS 15216-OPM provides optical monitoring of individual ITU wavelengths at any location within a DWDM network. The Cisco ONS 15216-OPM is ideal for use with DWDM networks that are built using other Cisco ONS 15200 Series Metro DWDM platforms, the industry-leading Cisco ONS 15454 Optical Transport Platform, and the Cisco ONS 15540 Extended Services Platform.

The Cisco ONS 15216-OPM provides spectral measurement of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), which includes wavelength, power, and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) on a per-channel basis. Spectral parameters such as signal power, wavelength, and OSNR are measured and reported through CRAFT (RS-232) or Ethernet interfaces. This product is designed to monitor up to 40 individual optical channels in a single DWDM signal stream, and supports a channel spacing of 100 GHz or greater. The Cisco ONS 15216-OPM reports alarms based on user-provisionable thresholds.

Cisco ONS 15200 Metro DWDM Solution Overview

The Cisco ONS 15200 Metro DWDM solution supercharges wavelength services and provides radical economics for service providers. The ONS 15200 delivers instant wavelength services to the customer premise or between carrier PoPs, interoperates seamlessly with the industry-leading Cisco ONS 15454 and ONS 15327 metro optical transport platforms, and offers the highest service density and lowest cost per wavelength. The ONS 15200 is scalable in single wavelength increments, aggregates wavelengths, and provides metro and regional-metro ring, star and point-to-point networks.

The Cisco ONS 15200 Metro DWDM Solution includes the ONS 15252, ONS 15201, and ONS 15216 platforms. The ONS 15252 multichannel wavelength system and ONS 15201 single channel wavelength system combine to deliver wavelength services for OC3/STM1, OC1212/STM4, OC48/STM16, POS, Gigabit Ethernet, FICON, ESCON and Fiber Channel.

The Cisco ONS 15216 Metro DWDM platform includes the following components (all of which have been previously announced and are currently orderable-refer to Product Bulletin # 1386):

• 18 Wavelength Mux/Demux-The Cisco ONS 15216-Mux/Demux consists of a base and an upgrade module and provides scalable filtering of up to 18 ITU wavelengths for use at hub or terminal sites.

• 9 Wavelength Base Red Filter

• 9 Wavelength Upgrade Blue Filter

•Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (OADM)-The Cisco ONS 15216-OADM consists of a 1-channel unit and a 2-channel unit that provide ITU wavelength filtering for sites along an optical DWDM ring.

• 1-Channel, Optical Add/Drop Mux

• 2-Channel, Optical Add/Drop Mux

• C-Band Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA)-The Cisco ONS 15216-EDFA provides optical amplification to extend the DWDM system's optical reach to 400km and beyond.
